2020 Seniors and parents/guardians:
Thank you again for participating in our survey about options for your graduation ceremony. As I shared with you recently, based on your responses, the overwhelming majority chose to have a traditional graduation ceremony. Based on this feedback, we set possible dates for this summer, and I have updated this information for you here.
On April 25th, Governor Hutchinson and Secretary Key announced that traditional high school graduation ceremonies are to be restricted until after July 1. As this date nears, they will continue to make decisions regarding schools holding traditional graduation ceremonies based on the most current public health data, and we will proceed with our proposed dates for holding GHS commencement exercises based on those recommendations. At this time, our tentative date for GHS Graduation is Sunday, July 19th, and the subsequent alternative dates are listed here:
● Sunday, August 2
● Sunday, August 9 The ceremony will take place on the GHS campus at Don Jones Stadium, beginning at 7:00pm. No tickets will be issued or required for admittance. We will provide a live stream of the ceremony, and this will be available for viewing in the GHS Fine Arts Building (and possibly the Panther Pavilion if the number of attendees warrants additional seating) for those who wish to view the ceremony in an air conditioned setting.
We also plan to host the 2020 Jr./Sr. Prom on the Friday of graduation weekend. Lawnmower Day and the Senior Picnic will be on Saturday morning of the same weekend. We will make every possible effort to proceed with this plan, but as always, holding these events is subject to change based on recommendations and guidance from the Arkansas Department of Health regarding social gatherings. We will continue to communicate with students through school email and social media for any updates or changes to these plans.
If you have any questions about the information I have shared here, please reach out to me by email at email@example.com or call the school office during the week at (501) 679-4236.
I hope to see you all soon! Be safe.
